Standard Coating
  • Category – 1
  • Ductile iron pipes shall be installed with minimum zinc coating of 200g/m2 with finishing layer of bitumen of thickness 70 microns (standard coating), in the field with the following specifications:
    • Soils with resistivity higher than 2500 ohm–cm (below water table) or 1500 ohm–cm (above water table).
    • Soil with pH above 6
    • Soil not containing refuse, cinders, etc.
Other Coatings and Special Coatings
  • Category – 2
    • 1000 Ω.cm ≤ Soil Resistivity ≤ 1500 Ω.cm (Pipe laid above water table – dry areas)
    • 1500 Ω.cm ≤ Soil Resistivity ≤ 2500 Ω.cm (Pipe laid below water Table – wet areas)
    • Soil with pH above 6
    • Soil not containing refuse, cinders, etc.
    • Recommended coating: Zinc 200 g/m2 with Finishing layer of 100 micron epoxy
  • Category – 3
    • 500 Ω.cm ≤ Soil Resistivity ≤ 1000 Ω.cm
    • Soil with pH above 6
    • Soil not containing refuse, cinders, etc.
    • Recommended coating: Zinc & Aluminium alloy coating 400 g/m2 with Finishing layer of 70 micron of Epoxy
  • Category – 4
    • Soil Resistivity ≤ 500 Ω.cm
    • Recommended coating: Polyurethane coating in accordance with EN 15189
